    Chair, Department of Informatic Medicine and Personalized Health

    The School of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking a dynamic individual to lead the development of a new Department of Informatic Medicine and Personalized Health. Because of the rapid growth of its translational research programs in bioinformatics, health outcomes, quantitative genetics, genetic epidemiology, health services research, and related fields, the school is establishing this department and has embarked on a major development plan to further build its research and educational programs.     The incumbent provides support, direction and leadership in a program of research in:

    1) Evaluating and understanding the diffusion of emerging technologies including electronic medical records, genetic tests, biomarkers, advanced imaging, and targeted drugs.

    2) Conceptualizing, developing and managing national research initiatives to monitor and evaluate the dissemination and use of cancer-related preventive, screening and treatment interventions. Development of data systems, methods, study design and logistics for comparative effectiveness research studies, and dissemination and implementation of research results from such studies.

    3) Advanced epidemiological, statistical and econometric methods including adjusting for cofounders and selection bias in observational data, biostatistical and econometric methods for analyzing cost and quality of life data that have non-normal distribution and/or censored data.

    4) Leading and/or participating in small teams to conceptualize research topics, analyze data and publish research reports in the peer reviewed literature and summarize research findings.

    The successful applicant will be an experienced scientist (Ph.D. or equivalent-level training) with experience, communication skills and a record of peer-reviewed publications. The incumbent should have advanced training in health services and methods, and experience in applying these research methods to the fields of surveillance, comparative effectiveness, or health economics research.

    POLICY-ORIENTED INVESTIGATOR BRIDGING DECISION SCIENCES AND HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH

    The Section of Value and Comparative Effectiveness (SolvE), within the Division of General Internal Medicine of New York University School of Medicine, seeks to recruit an investigator to conduct policy-relevant health services research with a decision-centered perspective. Our research mission is to improve the value of health care systems by applying quantitative methods, building on growing investments in comparative effectiveness research and health information technology. Candidate will join a collegial, mentorship-rich environment, working alongside investigators with national and international recognition. Candidate will also contribute to The Operations Research Collaboration for Health (T.O.R.C.H.), a multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary collaboration uniting clinical and operations research expertise.

    The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan invites applications and nominations for faculty positions beginning September, 2010.

    We seek outstanding candidates for faculty positions in the areas of Health Systems Engineering, Financial Engineering, Quality Engineering, Production/Distribution/Logistics, and Simulation at all levels. Exceptional applicants in any of the above areas, broadly construed, as well as candidates in other research areas of the department are encouraged to apply.

    Candidates must have a Ph.D. and must demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality research and evidence of teaching potential. Experience related to manufacturing and/or service operations is desirable. Candidates for Associate or Full Professor should have a commensurate record of research publications and are expected to provide organizational and research leadership, develop sources of external funding, build relationships with industry, and interact substantively with faculty colleagues.

    Candidates should provide (i) a current C.V., (ii) a list of references, and one page summary statements describing: (iii) career teaching plans; and (iv) research plans. The application review process will begin on November 1, 2009, but the positions will remain open and applications will continue to be reviewed until appointments are made.

    Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

    Department of Public Health Management and Policy

    The Department of Public Health Management and Policy in the School of Medicine invites applications for three tenure-track academic positions in health services research. The Department of Public Health Management and Policy (http://www.healthpolicy.vcu.edu) is a vital and growing research and teaching department. VCU boasts one of the country's most comprehensive health sciences centers--the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, and Allied Health Professions, and the Massey Cancer Center as part of the VCU Medical Center. Moreover, the Department is ideally located in Richmond, Virginia, the state's capital, and close to Washington DC, providing excellent opportunities for interaction and collaboration with practitioners and policy makers in state and federal agencies. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.

    Applicants must possess a doctorate degree in economics, health services research, public policy, medical decision making or related field and have a strong research background with an emerging or existing funded research program. M.D.s with related research experience are also encouraged to apply.     Faculty Position


    The Department of Medical Oncology and the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are actively recruiting faculty at the Associate Professor or Professor levels. We are particularly interested in bringing together individuals who are conducting research on health decision making and behavior related to cancer prevention and control. Independent investigators who are dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care for all populations through research related to cancer risk, early detection, survivorship, and health disparities are invited to apply.

    Opportunities. New faculty will have the opportunity to join the Division of Population Science, Department of Medical Oncology, Jefferson Medical College, and the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University. Salary and benefits for the positions are highly competitive. Research infrastructure support is provided. The Division of Population Science and the Kimmel Cancer Center promote interactions among basic, clinical, and population scientists in the conduct of cancer prevention and control research.     Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship

    Full-Time Applied Research Fellowships Available

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) established the 2-year Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship in 1995 to address an ongoing demand in public health for rigorous quantitative policy analysis, health economics-based inquiry, and integrative health services research through the recruitment, internal placement, and professional development of public health economists.

    Prevention effectiveness and public health economics aim to assess the impact of public health policies, programs, and practices on health outcomes by determining efficacy, effectiveness, and efficiency through the use of econometric, decision, simulation, and operations modeling and analytic methods. Past fellows have studied such diverse areas as; smoking cessation, water quality, measles eradication, cancer burden, outbreak management, tuberculosis screening, sexually transmitted disease prevention, influenza vaccination and stockpiling, and food safety.

    CDC is recruiting to fill approximately five Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship positions for 2010. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in economics, decision sciences, health services research or related health sciences, industrial engineering, operations research, public policy, or related quantitatively-oriented fields. All doctoral degree requirements must be completed by June 11, 2010. A medical degree with additional relevant training is acceptable. U.S. citizens or permanent residents are preferred.

    The starting annual salary is approximately $70,000 plus benefits. The application period opens on August 17, 2009 and closes November 6, 2009.     Healthcare Technology Assessment Analyst

    The mission of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) Center for Evidence-Based Practice (CEP) is to support the quality, safety and value of patient care at UPHS through evidence-based practice. The CEP Analyst position is at the core of these translational activities, and is accountable for preparing evidence reviews to inform high impact clinical policy at UPHS. Secondary accountabilities include the dissemination and implementation of findings from the review process. Applicants should have experience in performing systematic reviews and meta-analyses, computer skills including expertise with Microsoft Office, statistical software and bibliographic management software, and a Masters degree or doctorate in clinical epidemiology or related fields, or a background in health technology assessment.
