The course "Modeling Approaches for HTA: a Practical Hands-on Workshop" is part of the International Health Technology Assessment & Decision Sciences (HTADS) Continuing Education Program developed by the Institute of Public Health. The third 3-day Modeling Workshop will take place from June 7-9, 2012, right before the SMDM European meeting in Oslo. This workshop combines theoretical concepts with practical hands-on exercises comprising various modeling techniques applied in Public Health and HTA. Real-world case examples from different acute and chronic diseases will be discussed. In this course, the participants will handle with uncertainty and variability, individual behavior and waiting lines and dynamic transmissions and herd immunity. Additionally, the certified course contains a modeling overview and taxonomy as well as models of microsimulation, discrete event simulation and infectious disease, and other modeling approaches. - AHRQ Symposium • June 12-13, 2012 • Rockville, Maryland. The theme of the 2012 symposium is “From Efficacy to Effectiveness.” Invited experts will give podium presentations on innovative research methods to evaluate mechanisms that contribute to the differences in the results of randomized clinical trials (i.e., efficacy studies) and observational studies conducted in real world settings (i.e., outcomes and effectiveness research).
